Shine a light,
a penlight, a flashlight, a torch,
over all your jaggedy edges and ugly corners,
Let them have their moment in the sun.
Illuminate, illumine,
give weight to the scrawny and underdeveloped,
stretch your muscles
and test your resolve,
widen the cracks of consumption.
It has been my experience that people don’t know how to comment (or feel comfortable with commenting) on poetry. But I’ll go out on a limb here and say that I love this. The word ‘consumption’ is so powerful.
It’s always a question, I think, of whether or not you understand what the person is trying to say, but I figure interpretation doesn’t count too much. That may just be because subtlety is not my strong suit and metaphors/symbolism go right over my head 😉 Regardless, for whatever reason that you did, I find myself extremely gratified that you loved it, so thank you, very much.
